I’m a French musician. I started playing guitar at 18, right after my “my A-Levels (French Baccalauréat)”. I just got a few lessons, then I became self-taught. My teacher at that time asked me what song I wanted to learn. It was easy for me!
Come As You Are, from Nirvana, and Be Quick Or Be Dead, from Iron Maiden. He told me : “Okay. Do you know it all comes from the blues?” So I learned the blues scales and got fed up.
So I got myself a bunch of “Guitar Part” magazine, a Troy Stetina method to shred, a loooottt of tabs (Maiden, Slayer, AC/DC, Metallica, Megadeth…). Some books about theory to learn modes like phrygian, mixolydian, aeolian. All that kind of -ian modes. Needless to say, I forgot most of this today.
2 years after starting, I played in a band for 3 years. We did a lot of gigs, released a demo, then split. We got back together with another drummer, then we stopped. Since, I didn’t play in a band. Work and kids are time-consuming.
As I’m a computer geek, I was interested early on the help that a PC can give. I got Yamaha XG Works back in the days. Fantastic piece of MIDI software. I really liked to get drum parts with those big blue, black and orange dots. Then I got a Tascam Portastudio 414, to put the MIDI sounds on it, then play my guitar. And doing some ping-pong…
Today I’m a bit more evolved with a Presonus Audiobox USB 96. Wonderful audio interface. The Presonus Studio Artist One is a really great piece of software too. Really easy to use.
The music you hear here is coming from this.
